Top 10 gift wrapping ideas

If you’re looking for something a little more interesting than traditional gift wrapping paper to wrap your gifts, here’s a list of 10 fantastic gift wrapping ideas that will really make your presents stand out. Enjoy!

  • 1 – Vintage street directories

The pages from vintage street directories are a great way to wrap your gifts. Source your local city, somewhere you’ve lived in the past or a big city like New York, London or Paris. Similarly, old maps are also fantastic and larger in size.
  • 2 – Fabric offcuts

Left over fabric offcuts are cheap and interesting. For the price of a small sheet of designer wrapping paper you can buy a good chunk of fabric from your local fabric store. Compliment the fabric with a bow in an alternative fabric or ribbon.
  • 3 – Useful linen

Tea towels, face towels & hand towel are lovely gifts that double as smart wrapping. Keep some fabric ribbon or twine on hand to secure the linen around your gifts. Terribly practical and can also look very stylish.
  • 4 – Red paper + green leaves = stunning Christmas wrap

Wrap your gifts in red tissue paper and use a red or green striped ribbon or a white ribbon to secure some bright green leaves to your package.
  • 5 – Designed by the kids

Plain white paper is the perfect canvas for the children to decorate your special gifts. Arm the kids with some bright textas or paints and let them create the most personalised wrapping ever! You can also draw some picture outlines yourself and let the kids colour in. There are plenty of stencil images online that you can borrow from. Finish off this wrapping with some bright ribbon.
  • 6 – A floral touch

Adding a fresh flower to your wrapping can be just gorgeous. Simply cut enough of the stem to secure your flower to the wrapping with a complimentary ribbon. Remember that cut flowers don’t last well on their own so cut it as late as you can!
  • 7 – Vintage wallpaper

Just like vintage fabrics, remnant wallpaper can be a stunning way to wrap your gifts.
  • 8 – Brown kraft paper layered with fancy paper

Make designer gift paper last by layering it with brown kraft paper or plain white paper.
  • 9 – Christmas decorations

Attach a cute Christmas decoration to your Christmas gifts for an extra bit of interest and sparkle. You can use your “usual” gift paper and add a Christmas touch by adorning some little Christmas trinkets.
  • 10 – button and twine

Gifts wrapped with paper, then harnessed with twin or ribbon that is threaded through a decorative button (yes, a button suited to a shirt or jacket) can look awesome. Collect random and oversized buttons from your local haberdashery store.
